‘The Big Fix’ Mark Wahlberg & Riz Ahmed Netflix Thriller: Everything We Know So Far

Produced by Chernin Entertainment, filming is set to get underway in Sydney, Australia, in April 2026. Here’s everything we know about The Big Fix on Netflix. First revealed by Deadline in late January 2026 (although in development for at least the past 3-4 years), The Big Fix is an upcoming Netflix Original crime-thriller directed by Baltasar Kormákur (2 Guns). The script is by Guy Bolton (Hijack) and Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road). As mentioned, this project has been in development at Netflix and Chernin Entertainment for some time. We were first alerted to the project in 2023, with the team actively casting as early as 2023, when Emerald Fennell was attached to the project. Prior to Riz Ahmed’s casting, Dev Patel had been approached to play the lead role, we’re told. The movie also had several working titles, including “Soccer Thriller” and “Dark Game”.  Kormákur is producing the film alongside Chernin Entertainment’s Peter Chernin and David Ready. Chernin Entertainment is the studio responsible for Netflix films such as the Fear Street trilogy, Rez Ball, and Back in Action. More Chernin Entertainment films are due to be released in 2026, including Apex and 11817, and the Kennedy series, which is now filming. What is the plot of The Big Fix? Here’s a complete synopsis for what’s described as a cat and mouse thriller, The Big Fix: “An international crime thriller set in the high stakes world of match-fixing in the world’s most popular sport, where purity clashes with the dirty world of organized crime. The film follows three main characters– the ex-Interpol agent charged with cleaning up the game (based on the life rights of Chris Eaton, a former police officer who helped uncover the scandal while serving as top enforcement agent for FIFA), the masterful match fixer being funded by the Triads (based on the currently incarcerated Raj Perumal, who was caught in Finland and charged with match fixing) and the promising young player who has to choose between his personal honor and the safety of his family (an amalgamation of several actual players). Eaton’s efforts were stymied by the sport’s governing bodies, but Perumal’s own sloppiness caused his demise. Unsatisfied betting on rigged games he brokered, Perumal began betting on legitimate sporting events, and losing his shirt–$10 million in one three-month period. He pressed to recover his losing bets and the schemes were uncovered. Perumal spent a year in a Finnish prison, but was turned over to Hungary, one of a number of EU countries that want him to answer for match fixing” Who are the cast members of The Big Fix? It has been confirmed that the film’s leads are Mark Wahlberg and Riz Ahmed. The names of the roles have yet to be revealed, but Wahlberg’s character is inspired by Interpol agent Chris Eaton, and Ahmed’s is inspired by the now-incarcerated Raj Perumal. Mark Wahlberg is one of Hollywood’s biggest names and has previously starred in three major Netflix films: Spenser Confidential, Me Time, and The Union. The actor has starred in critically acclaimed films such as The Departed, The Fighter, and Boogie Nights. Wahlberg is expected to play Eaton, a former police officer and FIFA enforcement agent. Ahmed was previously nominated for an Academy Award for his performance as Ruben Stone in Sound of Metal. The actor has starred in popular film franchises such as Jason Bourne, Star Wars, and Venom. He’s expected to play the world’s most notorious match-fixer. While the 2023 notes suggested a “redemption” arc where he becomes friends with Eaton, the official synopsis emphasizes his downfall due to his own gambling addiction, losing $10 million in three months.
