Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification:

  • Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or equivalent qualification. Final-year students awaiting results may also apply, provided they meet eligibility criteria at the time of the Main Examination. 

Age Limit (as on 01.08.2026):

  • Minimum Age: 21 years

  • Maximum Age: 32 years (Relaxations applicable for OBC/SC/ST/PwBD as per rules) 

Nationality:

  • Indian citizenship is mandatory for IAS, IPS, and IFS posts. 

Selection Process

The selection for UPSC Civil Services is conducted in three stages:

  1. Preliminary Examination – Objective type screening test.

  2. Main Examination – Written descriptive papers.

  3. Personality Test (Interview) – Final merit ranking. 

Salary & Benefits

Selected candidates are appointed to Group A services with pay and perks under the 7th Central Pay Commission. Entry-level officers typically start at Pay Level 10, with basic pay and allowances such as Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and others.

  • SC / ST / PwBD / Female Candidates: Fee exempted
    Payments can be made online via net banking, debit/credit card, or other available digital modes. 

Additional Notes

  • UPSC also conducts the Indian Forest Service (IFS) examination through the CSE prelims. Candidates aiming for IFS must meet subject requirements specified in the detailed notification.
